Within the Electricity Distribution Sector, PTS work very closely with the UK Distribution Network Operators (DNO’s) in assisting in delivering all aspects of their projects. We have various framework contracts with many of the DNO’s which allow us to ensure understanding of our clients requirements.
The services that can be offered include –
PROJECT MANAGEMENT |
Successful Project delivery depends on the efficient management and control of Project variables such as co-ordination of equipment manufacturers, sub-contractors, designers, specialist suppliers, internal and external stakeholders, clients and end customers. PTS are able to undertake these Project Management and Project Engineering functions in order to co-ordinate and successfully deliver the project to the necessary specifications, on programme and to the budget. |

ENGINEERING |
With experience in all aspects of substation engineering and design work, PTS can ensure that our clients receive exactly what is required no matter how onerous the specifications are. Whether the requirements include input from the beginning of a project with the production of a feasibility study, delivery of a detailed design package for construction or a complete start to finish design such that project approval can be sought, PTS have necessary expertise to deliver.
This expertise is available both for the Primary plant aspects of a substation and the Secondary protection requirements; from initial plant layout concept designs and protection application studies through to fully detailed installation details, protection schemes and diagrams, and multi-core cable termination details. All of this can be delivered by PTS in-house expertise as well as coordinating civil requirements with the civil designer. |

COMMISSIONING |
As for the transmission sector, PTS have a team of highly experienced commissioning staff conversant with schemes and equipment at distribution voltages from 11kV, 33kV, 66kV and 132kV. PTS can provide commissioning services on a fixed price, time and material or as part of a turnkey solution. Our commissioning personnel support outage and new build requirements throughout the year with PTS being in the position to
co-ordinate the utilisation of this resource to ensure full support of our customers needs in a professional and efficient manner. |

SAP OPERATIONS |
When undertaking the final commissioning of a new site, or when working on an existing part of the network, this requires co-ordination of the safety aspects associated with the electrical system. This work is carried out by senior authorised persons (SAP’s); PTS can provide SAP’s for most of the largest UK DNO’s, including EDF Energy, United Utilities, CE Electric and Central Networks. We can also provide authorised people to co-ordinate works at the 132kV interfaces between National Grid and the respective DNO.
From undertaking the initial network analysis and agreeing the switching programme with the relevant control centre, to isolating and earthing the system to allow safety documents to be issued, and finally carrying out the return to service, PTS can provide this as a service to clients requiring the resource as well as managing our own projects.
- Decommissioning a substation can be as onerous as commissioning a substation with Health and Safety concerns. Power Technology Solutions can offer the full range of planning and return of control as required to an DNO including Project management if required.
- Pre – Commissioning of contestable connection equipment i.e. private prepared networks. Power Technology Solutions complete all pre-com for companies like PNDaly’s, this may also include preparation of all associated documents for submission to DNO’s.
